I will review the astrophysical measurements, which provided evidence for the accelerated expansion of the Universe. I will then discuss the implications for our model of the Universe and how we think we can explain the accelerated expansion with dark energy or more exotic extensions of Einstein's theory of gravity. I will finally discuss how future survey campaigns or satellite missions should be designed to reveal some properties of dark energy or alternatives.
